Learning Styles Assessments

According to the C.I.T.E. Learning Styles Instrument I am a visual language and expressiveness written learner. Both styles require me to rely heavily on what I see to learn new skills or recall information. I almost equally prefer to learn new things within a group or by myself. This learning preference depends on the situation or specifically what it is that I am trying to learn. My negligible or lowest scoring learning style preference is exprssiveness oral. Typically, I do not need to say things aloud to myself in order to learn. I usually don't feel comfortable expressing newly acquired skills or knowledge verbally unless I am completely familiar or abreast with the content.

Scroing: Major - 34 to 40, Minor - 20 to 32, & Negligible - 10 to 18

following qualities: expressive, observant, tough-minded, and scheduled. I was not surprised that by answering the questions on the Keirsey that my results were guardian. The only difference in supervisor versus inspector is one quality: ESTJ oppose to ISTJ. The 'I' represents introversion with an attentive quality instead of expressive. Depeding on the nature of the situation, I could easilty alternate between these two results.

True Colors

Green 16 -----> AS (Abstarct Sequential)

Gold 18 -------> CS (Concrete Sequential)

Orange 6 -----> AR (Abstract Random)

Blue 10 -------> CR (Concrete Random)

I have taken several variations of the true colors test before and I usually identify strongly with both GOLD and GREEN. This particular version of the test was no different.

The true colors test can be related more to personality than a specific learning style. However, knowing your personality type can assist in pinpointing and understanding certain traits about your learning style. The true colors test can be compared to the Gregorc. Listed next to each color above is the coorespondng result from the Gregorc (featured to the right). I scored highest as a Concrete Sequential on the Gregorc which is reflected in my true colors result. Suprisingly, my second highest score of Concrete Random was my lowest scoring color of blue. Nevertheless, I agree with being a true GOLD! Gold persoanlity types are structured and need things to be clearly defined. Golds are usually traditional, goal-oriented,  inclined to join groups, desire punctuality, value organization and rules, prepare for the future, and believe work comes before play. In some cases I do possess qualites of a true Green personality type such as always seeking perfection, innovative, slow to make decisions, need to be competent, value concise communication, sometimes question authority, and enjoy intriguing discussions.

Index of Learning Styles

More REFLECTIVE than active - 7

More INTUITIVE than sensing - 3

Fairly balanced between VERBAL & VISUAL - 1

More GLOBAL than sequential - 9

(results are scaled between two dimensions)

The Index of Learning suggests that I require more to think over things before makng an decision oppose to acting right away. I scored closer toward the intuitive dimesion where I

would more likely be theoretical and seek out meaning in things. My results were evenly balanced for verbal and visual indicating I use them both equally and/or interchangeably. Scoring highest on the dimension spectrum for global suggests I need to see the whole picture and understand how it will work/fit holistically first over the smaller details.

Barsch Learning Style Inventory

Visual Preference Score (VPS): 30

Auditory Preference Score (APS): 24

Tactile Preference Score (TPS): 20

Kinesthetic Preference Score (KPS): 8

Barsch suggest that I rely heavily on a visual preference for learning. However, I prefer the auditory style to learning as well with a high score. The kinesthetic learning style still holds true to being my lowest score and most NON-preferred method of learning.

Memletic Styles Quiz

Aural 15/20 ------> voice, sound, etc.

Verbal 15/20 -----> words, phrases, & written

Social 10/20 ------> prefer groups

Solitary 10/20 ----> prefer to be alone

Physical 7/20 -----> sense of touch (doing)

Logical 9/20 ------> use of reasoning

Visual 6/20 -------> pics, images, etc.

Memletic can be referred to as Memory Athletics which challenges mental fitness. This quiz can be accessed for free at www.memletics.com. I was surprised that I scored so low in the visual area compared to the other quiz categories. Memletics suggest that I remember things better if I verbally hear them being told to me. I would diagree with this result. Often times I will forget either in whole or part something told to me  especially if its new information. I need a combination of verbal and aural. However, I do agree that I can sometimes recall my memory by associating certain phrases. It also suggests that I prefer groups (social) and beng alone (solitary) equally. I agree with this result completely. It all depends on the situatuon and learning environment as to whether I would prefer to be with others or alone. I am not a physical or kinestethic learner and I can acquire new information without physically doing it.

Abstract Random 23    Abstract Sequential 22

Concrete - touch & feel (visible belief)

Abstract - concepts & ideas

Sequence - linear/step by step (logical)

Randomness - nonlinear/mentally order data

According to the Gregorc Style Delineator self assessment for adults, I most identify with the qualities of a Concrete Sequential. Conrete Sequentials need controlled environmental spaces that are neat, clean, pratical and orderly. They typically fear the unknown, choas, loss, and being wronged. CSs dislikes mixed signals, broken promises, and clutter. Stronger dislikes include liars, unearned privileges, and being unable to forget. Rarely do they give compliments. Some negative charateristics include being domineering, petty, opiniated, stubborn, control freak, and coarse. CSs are very literal, succinct, and logical in use of language.

On the reverse side I am least likely to relate to Abstract Random personalities. ARs tend to be spacey, wishy washy, lazy, and irresponsilble (none of which I like or like to tolerate). They are emotional and are driven by an inner guidance system. ARs tend to be metaphoric and vibrant using lots of body language which seems to be the exact opposite of a true CS. They usually offer many compliments with strong feeling. CSs are more linear while ARs are multi-dimensional in their abilities to order things.

Scoring: Dominant - 27 to 40, Intermediate - 16 to 26, & Low - 10 to 15

NonVerbal Immediacy

Self Assessment: 93

Observer Assessment: 98 (mean score)

Nonverbal Immedicay refers to the use of body language, behaviors, and nonverbal communication functions to rely information. We are drawn naturally drawn toward nonverbal immediacies that we prefer for understanding.

I took the test to score myself and had my classmates score me based on my presentation performance. Females tend to use and be more aware of their nonverbal immediaies and functions than males. I socred myself at 93 which is low compared to mean score for women which 96.7. However, my classmates saw my use nonverbal cues and functions closer to the mean score.

According to the VARK questionnaire scoring chart I am mainly a visual and reading or writing learner. I am least likely to acquire or lean toward the physical application of learning something new.

Keirsey Temperament Report

Sorter Results: GUARDIAN

The guardian is a concrete cooperator. Majority of the population is classified as guardian. Guardians are catorgorized by supervisor, inspector, provider, or protector. I most identify with supervisor and inspector. The supervisor is comprised of ESTJ or Extroversion, Sensing, Thinking, and Judging. These characterisitcs equate to the
