Self Assessment Summary 

During the spring semester of 2015 in my Special Topics course at Auburn University I took several learning style instruments. All of the instruments or assessments varied in question style, scoring, and results. The instruments were introduced to me through presentations conducted my classmates. 

 

The instruments were disseminated for completion via online, printed form, and Microsoft Excel. They were both self scoring and electronically scored. All of the instruments were free of cost to complete. Most were self explanatory; however, all of the assessments came with specific, explicit instructions for completion.

 

Moreover, I enjoyed completing each instrument as well as learning more about how both my learning and personality styles. I was pleasantly surprised to see just how much personality is relevant to how individuals learn and retain information. 

 

I scored the highest in verbal and visual learning styles on the majority of the test instruments. Some tests proved I even prefer those two styles of learning interchangeably. I am least likely to gravitate toward kinesthetic learning habits and techniques. I scored the lowest in kinesthetic or tactile learning for each assessment. In comparison to my personality of liking order and requiring structure it was of no surprise that I need to hear and see what I am trying to learn as these both are concrete methods of learning and directly relate to each other for my particular learning style.

 

In addition, I tend to be very intuitive and aware which makes me quiet introverted observer. This quality allows me to pay attention very well and use what I hear and see to gain knowledge or even acquire a new skill. I tend to like music when studying or while learning. Again this is directly associated with learning through what I hear. Music helps me to focus and sometimes relate material with phrases or tunes that trigger in my brain for recalling information.
